The
purpose of this website is to enable the interested collectors and
historians to see some of the old (antique) maps available on Georgia,
Caucasus and surrounding area.
The most of the maps displayed
in the old map gallery of this website, date to 16th -18th centuries,
the epoch when mapmaking became more accurate and up-to-date. Each map
is accompanied with a short explanation - including the name of author
and date of print. The website would welcome contributions to the
site in the form of comments or additional information to the subject of
the site. |

Georgia is located in the Caucasus Mountains on the eastern shores of
the Black Sea. It is bounded to the north by Russian federation, to the
south by Turkey, to the south and southeast by Armenia and Azerbaijan.
The territory of Georgia is
69,700 sq km. Population: 4,693,892 million (2002 census). Highest
point: Mt Shkhara, 5,068 m altitude. Capital: Tbilisi, population: 1,1
million (official data). Main Religion: Orthodox Christian. |
